Don't touch another man's tools? My family doesn't abide by that rule. TWO days in a row I come home to my toolbox being fucked up.
That's how my box looked today when i came home from work. Roughly $300 worth of tools strewn about like its nothing. My mom said she was trying to find a level and opened the box upside down. I don't have a fucking level in my toolbox. She didn't bother cleaning it up or even apologizing, for that matter. Now I'm missing a few sockets. Awesome.
Yesterday when I came home from work, I discovered that 2 of the tabs that hold the lid closed on the box were snapped off. My dad owned up to it and apologized, so I'm not that mad about it. He was trying to find a hammer...
...but this is where I keep three of my four hammers. Literally at his eye level.
I keep my tools and workspace impeccably clean and organized so it really annoys me when people show a blatant disregard for my garage space.
End rant.

Time to be passive aggressive.
Head into the kitchen and open all the cupboards, leave pots and pans laying around. When questioned, say you were looking for a cup.

I renovated my garage when I moved this summer. The whole back wall is pegboard. Everything else is on or under my workbench. If my mom needs it, she can see it, or call me while I'm at school and I know exactly where it is. Past that, no one better touch my shit.

I guess your family really likes touching each other's tools.

I was always taught that if I use something that isn't mine, I better make sure it didn't look like I ever used it.

That top shot made me mad, and they're not even my tools! The best part of my job, is I don't have to share a shop with anybody else. My last job, don't get me started on some of those some of those worthless excuses for teachers.

That honestly would be perfect considering my mom is a caterer. Fuck with my tools and I start hiding pots and pans.

Same here. In January I overhauled my garage and made it pristine. Everything has its place and it's all perfectly organized. I know where everything goes and if something is missing, I can tell in less than 10 seconds. It took me a good month to get the garage how it is now so its unbelievably frustrating when my family trashes it. My family usually knows the rules to call me if they can't find a tool, but the past two days have been the exception. Hopefully this idiotic trend disappears.

I literally screamed when I saw the box laying like that.
I envy you having a shop to yourself. It's so unbelievably frustrating dealing with people who can't keep a clean and organized garage or shop.

I never heard of that rule, where I come from it's 'put it back and don't break it'. But for fuck's sake, what's so hard about putting sockets back in their spots in a case like that?

I would have screamed too.
I've been there, I know the feels.

My friend's dad used to have a pretty expansive tool set and he always told us to never mess with it when we were kids. That rule stuck with me and I tell it to everyone I know because I've got way too much damn money invested in my tools for people to screw with them.
Putting the sockets back wasn't hard, but it sure was a pain in the ass. I finished a minute ago and my mom just came to apologize and offer to help. There's no way she would have been able to separate the imperial and metric sockets and the different socket drive sizes.

Well, at least the system kinda works. I've been meaning to do a write up on my garage build? for like 2 months. Put about 200-250 hours into it. It's now the best room in the house.

Im like that with my art supplies. One day I went off on my mom for moving my paint brushes (This was a while ago, Im still missing most of my brushes) And she (a licensed Psychotherapist) accused me of having OCD. Now I dont give a shit about where I put my things because shes always going through my stuff, so I basically gave up. Now shes pissed at me for being messy.

Everyone knows not to touch my tools. Half of tools no one knows what they are for. Calipers, belt tool, inspection camera, gear pullers, etc :P

I learned from a young age, touch dad's tools, you put them back where they go. Or you get demoted to flashlight monkey. No one wants to be flashlight monkey.

Funny.
Today some guys came to fix the sink, which is screwed to a granite top. I'm not touching that because drilling holes onto a $5K top is a risk i won't take.
When the guys came they had no tools, my mother gave them MY tools to use.
Can't believe we paid them...

I have OCD.
The next morning you would be hearing about my murder spree on the news.

Totally justifiable, in this case.
